Hiya guys!
I’m Tori Marie
the heart behind the hands
the face behind the camera
nice to meet you!
This is the part where you are hoping to learn a little bit more about the lady you might be inviting into the room where your baby is born. YIKES. I get it. It’s an intimate space, one of the most intimate spaces and we don’t know each other very well yet.
Let’s fix that.

TORI THE CAREGIVERI am a doula for two reasons, relationships and the dignity of the body. It gives me great joy to love, support, and encourage those around me. For centuries there was a culture of women gathering around each other during pregnancy and birth. Mothers, aunties, sisters, grandmothers and neighbors would rally around one another tending to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the women in their communities. Birth was a part of the everyday and bands of women could lean on each other without hesitation because knowledge of normal labor was commonplace. Today many families are living far away from their relatives. It is rare that our close female friends have the ability to leave their daily responsibilities when labor begins. Birth seems to be a mystery until you experience it for yourself. I’ve seen this lack of community and it breaks my heart. My aim is to support families by providing that once commonplace female companion. As a couple you shouldn’t have to walk through your pregnancy and birth feeling isolated or alone. I desire to walk with you in the footsteps of centuries of women before us. I also desire to help you create an environment where you can trust your body. Because we no longer labor in community there is so much that is unknown and scary about birth. It doesn't have to be that way. Especially because the more fearful we are the more pain we experience. And nobody wants more pain during birth. My goal is to reduce fear and pain through education, open communication, and permission to be free in your body. I’m so excited to support you during this time! |
TORI THE STORY TELLERI’ve often found that words aren’t enough. I’ve never been the person who can share the full scope and breadth of an experience with words. Those who have known me for a long time can attest that when it comes to words, I haven’t always been the best storyteller. The image in my mind would be so clear, but for some reason, words never did the story justice. As I would share detail upon detail I could almost hear my friends' brains saying “Tori, get to the point.” I wanted them to be able to savor every detail, every sight, scent, and sound. I remember thinking “If I could just place you in a picture of this moment, then you’d get it. I wouldn’t need to say a thing.” While words have often failed me, images never have. Over the years I’ve discovered that I am in fact a great storyteller. My stories are simply nonverbal. It’s this ability to attend to minute details and to see the elements that make the whole, which allow me to tell a story with pictures. |
